Visual Artist (Lima, Peru)

Claudia Gastaldo studied Painting at the Art School of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, and worked for more than twenty years as an illustrator for the  "El Comercio" Publishing Group, the largest example of the Peruvian press.

 

Her work has been recognized with fifteen national and international awards in the categories of painting, illustration, photo collage and infographics. These awards include those granted by the Inter-American Press Association (SIP), the Silver Award of the University of Navarra (Malofiej - Spain) and the Silver Award of the Society for News Design (SND).

Daughter of a Peruvian mother and an Italian father, Claudia enriches herself in the diversity of a multicultural family, surrounded by different influences and stimuli that encouraged creative thinking and allowed her to develop an expressive and characteristic style from an early age - in which she finds and recognizes herself - and which has remained  authentic in essence  over the years.

 

Claudia Gastaldo defines herself as a multifaceted artist with immense creative motivations regarding the exploration of materials and new technologies, which has allowed her to evolve, to adapt, and to change, choosing different techniques and forms of expression for her projects.

Her work is wide-ranging and includes: painting, drawing, photography, utilitarian art, digital illustration, artisan weaving, photo collage, video art, textile and surface pattern design, among others.

 

Sensitive and intuitive, Claudia feels a special connection with the countryside and the mountains, a fascination with rustic fabrics and typical Andean costumes, and a great love and respect for nature. All this is manifested in its bold color palette, which occupies a fundamental place in its creations and which she uses as the main means of expression to communicate,  generate emotions,  and achieve a powerful visual impact.

In this new chapter as a textile artist, her influences are wide and universal:

"The images, the shapes, and the colors come from different places, cultures and epochs. As if it were a genetic code or an inherited knowledge, that information exists in some hidden place of my being and my unconscious, waiting only, the opportunity to be revealed and recognized in each of my creations "
